This goal supports ongoing operations and grows three areas:
1. Children & Youth Ministries
Increase our budget from $4,600 to $5,500, creating more opportunities for our youngest members to learn, connect, serve, and grow in faith.
2. Our Staff
Provide a 4% cost-of-living adjustment for staff, alongside an anticipated 2% increase in pastoral medical benefits.
3. Sunday Worship
Invest $3,500 in a Sunday morning sound and technology assistant, improving the quality and consistency of worship and enabling us to resume recording services for those unable to attend in person.
A pledge is a personal commitment to contribute a particular amount over the coming year. It is an expression of intention. Pledges help our Session develop a realistic budget, plan responsibly, and make thoughtful decisions about our ministries.
Yes. Charitable contributions to qualifying churches are tax-deductible under applicable IRS rules. The specific benefit depends on your personal tax circumstances and the type of contribution.
Approximately 40 individuals and families support SHPC. Here is a snapshot of the levels of support of members and friends of our faith community.
6 donors - $1-$500
13 donors - $501 - $2,000
13 donors - $2,000 - $5,000
9 donors - $5,000 +
Here are three approaches to help you reflect on your giving.
1. Percentage Giving
One of the simplest ways to approach generosity is to choose a percentage of your income to give each year. Some people begin with 1% or 2%. Others commit to 5%, 10% (called a tithe in theBible), or another percentage.
Percentage giving allows generosity to become a regular practice that can grow and evolve alongside your circumstances. It invites the question: "What place do I want generosity to have in my life?"
2. Purpose Giving
Some people are deeply moved by caring for others. Some find meaning in nurturing the spiritual lives of children. Others are inspired by music, education, community, or making the world more compassionate and just.
Purpose Giving invites us to consider how our financial generosity reflects what we believe we are called to do in the world. A pledge is therefore more than a financial contribution; it can be an expression of our deepest values and our desire to make a difference through this faith community.
It invites the question, "How does my generosity reflect my purpose, and what difference might it make in the lives of others?"
3. Multiplication Giving
What if your gift could do more than sustain what already exists?
Beyond sustaining the existing ministries and mission of SHPC, Multiplication Giving enables SHPC to dramatically expand our outreach, grow our programs, and multiply our impact in the wider community. We might ask, "If I were to substantially increase my pledge what new possibilities and multiplication of impact could my generosity help create?
There are many ways to support SHPC beyond writing a check. Gifts of appreciated stock, charitable distributions from retirement accounts, and donor-advised funds may provide meaningful tax advantages. We encourage you to explore these possibilities with your financial advisor and contact the church for assistance with giving arrangements.
